Lisa Franklin will teach Kids Learn Color . This all-ages class is a perfect after school art adventure. Sure kids love color, but Ms. Franklin will give them the knowledge to use it better, and enjoy it way more! Students will get instruction in drawing with color as well as a bit of painting. The class is on four Wednesdays, starting February 6th, from 3PM to 5PM, and the cost is $85.00, which also covers almost all of the supplies.
Elfie Wilkins-Nacht will teach the next step in oil painting, Oil Painting Basics II . Elfie Wilkins-Nacht is a recent juror of the Fall Juried Show at the East Hawaii Cultural Center, one of their most interesting shows of the year. Elfie will educate new painters with the ideas that develop ones art appreciation, as well as ones technical skills. New painters will learn how to handle oil paints, as well as some of the basics of light, perspective, and color mixing. If you’ve painted a little, this class will help you develop a bit more fluency with your technique. The class meets on five Tuesdays from 3PM to 6PM starting March 18th. The cost is $100.00
Also in February, Kerri Ligatich kicks off our series of watercolor classes with Florals & Foliage in Watercolor , an exploration of the many watercolor techniques available to you to handle flowers, petals, stems, and leaves. Kerri’s patient and thorough style of teaching makes her the perfect guide to finding control of this sometimes mystifying medium. Class will be held for three Tuesdays from 9:30AM to Noon. The cost is $60.00. *Any students who have previously attended Kerri’s classes will get a $10.00 discount if they sign up for one of her classes before July first 2008!
Ms. Margaret Stanton, public muralist and local painter of fame, will teach Vibrant Acrylic Painting, for painters at all skill levels . Margaret, a.k.a “Peggy” has a very nurturing teaching style. Her goal is to help each student achieve what they are looking to achieve with acrylics, and her broad experience with the dizzying variety of Acrylic paints and mediums will steer you in the right direction. Students will learn about using lots of color, but responsibly, so you still love it in the morning! The class takes place on four Saturdays from 1PM to 4PM, starting February 23rd. The cost is $85.00.
Jacob Medina is teaching two drawing classes, Drawing for Youth, and Drawing for Adults . Jacob earned his formal degree in art from UH Hilo, but he’s no stuffy academic! He still knows how to make drawing fun, while guiding his students through the steps to learning new skills.
For Youth Drawing, ages 6 and up are welcome. The class meets on four Saturdays starting February 16th, from 10AM to Noon.
Adult Drawing, for all other ages, meets on four Thursdays starting February 21st. The cost for either class is $75.00.

The space is free for the artist if they do a demonstration with our products in the store. March is Watercolors month, and we still have room for one more watercolorist…April we will focus on the Glass Arts, May is Oil Painting month, June is dedicated to Ceramics, July’s demos and fair will focus on Acrylic paint. Stay tuned for more, and drop me a line if you have an interest in doing an art demonstration with the products at Hilo Art & Glass Supply.
