My latest charitable effort is to find muralists to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity , which has been offered a large wall in Prince Kuhio Mall for the purpose of a community mural. If you are interested in participating with this mural (just think, you’d be one of the most seen artists in Hilo!) you can contact Stacey Hargrove at pacificenterprises@earthlink.net.

Press release from Ted Coombs:

HILO ART MUSEUM EDUCATION AND SPECIAL EXHIBIT CENTER TO OPEN JULY 2nd.

We are excited to announce that the Hilo Art Museum’s Education and
Special Exhibit Center opens July 2nd in the Hilo Iron Works building. The facility will be open to begin the Summer session of classes. A complete list of classes and online signup can be found on the HAM Web site: www.hiloartmuseum.org. Also, the Museum Store will be open. Come by and have a coffee with us and let us share the vision as we prepare for our grand opening and first Exhibition of the Masters August 3rd at 5pm. This first-Friday opening will be free to the public, as will all first-Friday evening shows.

The HAM has been growing its permanent collection. It is hard to believe that only 10 weeks we have added a wonderful Pablo Picasso work, “Two Monkeys”, two Willem de Kooning pieces, an untitled pastel and a colored graphite title, “Woman”, a delicate work by noted fiber artist, Emily DuBois called, “The Egg”. “Man Sits with Shell as Wild Woman Leaves” is a fantastic social commentary painting by artist Suzanne Dix. There is more and even more on the way.
For those of you who have not yet become members, I would urge you to
sign up online at our Web site. We have made paying for membership
secure and simple.

We are currently looking for the following:
Volunteers to work as docents, help with the museum store and admission
desk. We are also building a research library and would love to receive
donations of new or used art books. Of course, financial donations are
always welcome. Unlike most art museums, we did not start with a large
donation or grant, we started with a dream. Your generosity will allow
it to continue and grow.Thank you for your interest and support.”

Questions? Volunteers? Contact Ted Coombs, Director, Hilo Art Museum (808) 961-1HAM www.hiloartmuseum.org.
